About Tanzania

Getting Around: Tanzania is generally safe and filled with friendly, peaceful people. You’ll often hear the word 'karibu' (welcome)—a gesture of warm hospitality that could invite you into a shop, a home, or even to share a meal. It’s perfectly acceptable to respond with 'asante sana' (thank you very much), whether accepting or politely declining.

As with all travel to developing regions, sensible precautions are advised. Before leaving your hotel, check with staff about areas to avoid, especially if you are alone or venturing out after dark.

Photography: Always be courteous when taking photos of people. Ask permission before capturing portraits to ensure respect and goodwill.

Health Requirements: Tanzania is a malaria zone; therefore, consult your physician about malaria prophylaxis and necessary vaccinations. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers arriving from countries where yellow fever is present unless transiting through the airport only.

Domestic Flights: Luggage on domestic flights is restricted to 15 kg (33 lbs) per person, including hand luggage, and must be in soft-sided bags. Excess baggage fees may apply.

Required Documents:

·       Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival)

·       Tourist visa (available online or on arrival)

·       Yellow fever certificate (if applicable)

·       Travel insurance with emergency numbers

·       Photocopies of essential documents (passport, visa, tickets, etc.) stored separately or digitally via email/cloud storage for safety.

Swahili Essentials:

·       Jambo – Hello

·       Karibu – Welcome

·       Asante – Thank you

·       Hakuna Matata – No Worries

·       Mambo ya asubuhi – Good Morning

·       Mchana mwema – Good Afternoon
